Ambition province provides chances for growth employment

There is a potential prospect of over 1900 full time jobs if the Province Flevoland fulfils its wind energy policy objectives. This is the main conclusion drawn by ACRRES and LEI in their report ‘Spin-off Wind Energy’ (in Dutch).

Wind energy production should over the next 10 years double, nationally as well as in the province Flevoland. At the moment about half of the wind energy production in Flevoland is in the hands of agriculture-related holdings. This means that there are excellent chances for these holdings as well as for companies involved in the construction and maintenance of windmills. To make the best possible use of these chances for the regional economy, the province should make every effort to stimulate construction and maintenance industries to settle in the province. This also applies for companies that are active in the field of test locations, research and supplies. To let the income effect of the windmills flow into the regional economy as much as possible, it is also important  that regional and local stakeholders are involved in the development of the parks as much as possible.

The study ‘Spin-off Wind Energy: a study into the economic, sustainability and regional effects of wind energy’ (in Dutch) has been carried out by ACRRES and LEI, both part of Wageningen University and Research Centre. The study has been carried out by order of Province Flevoland and the Ministry of LNV (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality). Wind energy has a positive effect on management and results of agricultural holdings and the Ministry of LNV takes these results into account in elaborating the national policy for a further growth of wind energy on land.

ACRRES wishes, together with companies, agencies, authorities and educational institutions, to develop, test and demonstrate sustainable energy by utilising sun, wind and biomass while at the same offering educational possibilities in this field. The centre also wishes to realise applications for maximum utilisation of raw materials and for closing cycles.
