Unit: Praktijkonderzoek Plant en Omgeving

A successful meeting of ‘De BoergerGroep’ was held on 27 June on the urban estate ‘De Kemphaan’ in Almere. Boergers, a Dutch acronym of the words farmer and citizen, is a group of concerned citizens who wish to advance their ideas about countryside and agriculture.

After four regional evenings, people from all over the Netherlands have on Saturday 27 June been working on vision and agenda of the ‘De BoergerGroep’. Major issues were the Boerger’s views on the relationship between town and countryside, with their food, and the landscape. And how Dutch agriculture can come up with the answers.

A number of Boergers will after the summer assemble the building blocks of this day into a vision and agenda document. » report of the day (pdf, in Dutch).

This meeting was organised and supported by Applied Plant Research (PPO) and the Animal Sciences Group of Wageningen UR. ‘De BoergerGroep’ is financed by the Ministry of LNV (Agriculture, Nature and Environment) in the context of Policy Supporting Research in the programme Systems Innovation Multifunctional Farming Systems.
